Overview
From December 1, 2019, the transit visa free stay time of eligible foreigners at Xi'an air port will be extended to 144 hours. This means that foreigners can stay in Xi'an and Xianyang city for 6 days without visa application in advance. 

Policy Shift
Since June 2014, Xi'an has implemented 72 hour visa free. Five years later, the implementation of 144 hour visa free transit in Xi'an means that foreigners can stay in the specified area for six days without visa application in advance. Previously, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, Shenyang, Dalian, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Qingdao, Wuhan, Chengdu, Kunming and other places have been approved to implement 144 hour transit visa free policy.

Significance
Xi'an is one of the thirteen ancient capital city in China, with rich historical sites and profound cultural heritage. How to Apply for 72 or 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Xi'an
1. Inform the carrier before you boarding your fligh at check-in counter
2. Fill an Arrival/Departure Card
3. Upon arrival at Xian airport, go throught China Customs in international arrival hall of Terminal 3, and then apply for the 144-Hour stay permit at frontier inspection / Immigration
4. After leave Airport, traveller only can visit Xi'an and Xianyang two cities.
5. Back to Xi'an Xianyangl Airport in 144 hours
6. Claim the luggage(If needed)
7. Go through the cutoms
8. Check in your next flight and leave
