The Terracotta Army was discovered on 29 March 1974 to the east of Xi'an in Shaanxi province by farmers digging a water well approximately 1.5 kilometres east of the Qin Emperor's tomb mound at Mount Li (Lishan), a region riddled with underground springs and watercourses. The Terracotta Museum is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, it is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.The construction of the tomb was described by historian Sima Qian (145–90 BCE) in his most noted work Shiji, written a century after the mausoleum's completion.

We had a fantastic half-day tour to the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an. Our guide, David, was incredibly friendly, exceptionally knowledgeable, and patient throughout the experience. His insights brought the history of the site to life, making our visit even more enjoyable. The tour was amazing! The organization was top-notch: we chose our pick-up and drop-off points based on our schedule, and even if we were 15 minutes late, it was no problem! The Terracotta Warriors Museum is about an hour's drive from Xi’an. It can get quite crowded; even though our guide said it wasn’t too busy that day, I can only imagine how packed it must be during peak times. Visibility was tricky, but our guide helped us find the best spots for viewing. Taller visitors definitely had an easier time seeing everything! Despite the crowds, the museum is a must-see for its impressive man-made tombs and sculptures. If visiting independently, you can book tickets in advance through the official website or apps and use your passport to enter. For a more relaxed experience, consider hiring a guide, though be prepared for possible stops at shops and restaurants which you can choose to skip.
My guide Phoebe is pretty, knowledgeable and takes good care of us. The tour was fantastic, and seeing the Terracotta Warriors was a real highlight. Wow really enjoyed the experience. Next time in Xian, I hope you can include new spots like Huashan and Qianling in the tour!
Wow, the Terracotta Army was absolutely amazing! Our guide Agnes was fantastic—she knew so much and was really friendly. She even helped us find some delicious local food after the tour, which was a lovely surprise. The whole process with the company was smooth from beginning to end. My friend and I enjoyed an amazing private half day Terracotta Warriors Tour in Xian, China with the assistance of Xian Private Tour. We were met at the train station by our tour guide Lisa and driver. So glad we didn't have to negotiate transport by our own at that tour. Lisa was excellent, excellent, excellent. It was the first time for me and my family to travel to Xian, China. We booked the tour for the Terracotta Warriors with Xian Private Tour. It was stunning. You are literally witnessing incredible history with these 2000 yr old statues. The condition of them is incredible. The history even more interesting, it helped a lot that our guide, Lisa, was very knowledgeable with history, providing so many interesting facts about the Terracotta Warriors. Our young girls were just as engrossed in the stories and artifacts as we were. Truly a visit not to be missed and a must see for everyone planning a visit to the ancient city of Xian.

My wife and I booked the Half Day Terracotta Warriors Tour through Xian Private Tour, the tour company was easy to work with and they did an excellent job in communicating and organizing our Xian trip.
Our tour guide Anna was absolutely incredible! Our flight was slightly delayed, but upon arrival and going through immigration at the airport, Anna was waiting for us and took us to visit the Terracotta Warriors accordingly. Anna was so accommodating and pleasant to spend our day with. We enjoyed our trip very much. Terracotta Warriors is definitely a must for visitors. Words cannot really show just how magnificent this museum is. We could have stayed all day and still not had enough!!! Anna was a real inspuration with her knowledge and anecdots. She offered history and background as we toured the site, and let us take our timve, she even patiently answered so many questions. When it was time to leave, Anna and the driver drove us to the airport, Anna went right up to the ticket counter checked me in and got our boarding pass.
We would absolutely return for additional tours of Xian! Don't let the price ponit scare you away. This is well worth the investment.
