Your first destination is The Temple of Heaven. The Temple of Heaven is a complex of Taoist buildings in the old outer city of Beijing, considered the supreme achievement of traditional Chinese architecture. Its layout symbolizes the belief that heaven is round and earth square. The temple complex consisted of a square and a circle, symbolizing the connection between Earth and Heaven. The Emperor, as the Son of Heaven, served as the mediator between Heaven and Earth on the behalf of the Chinese empire, especially responsible for ensuring a bountiful harvest season. UNESCO designated Temple of Heaven: An Imperial Sacrificial Altar in Beijing a World Heritage Site in 1998.
Continue your tour to Lama Temple, also named Yonghe Temple. A world-famous temple of the Yellow Hat sect of Lamaism, the Lama Temple is the largest and best-preserved lamasery in China. Its elaborate construction, including sweeping tile roofs, decorative archways, and imposing statues, along with its vivid history, make this gorgeous temple well worth a visit during your trip to Beijing. The temple features five large halls which house a treasury of Buddhist art, including sculptured images of gods, demons, and Buddhas, as well as Tibetan-style murals.
After that, drive you to your hotel, our tour guide will help you check in, the rest of the day is free on your own.
In the early morning, our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel lobby and take you to visit Tianan men Square.
Tian'an men Square. Located right in the heart of Beijing, the world-famous Tiananmen Rostrum is perhaps the most photographed piece of architecture in China. It's not merely an iconic landmark of the Chinese capital, but also a national symbol of China. Every year during the National Day holiday, millions of visitors from across the country flood to Beijing for sightseeing, and few of them will end their tour of the city without taking a photo against the backdrop of the magnificent Tian'anmen rostrum. As a tribute to China's National Day, in this edition of the show we'll talk about the Tiananmen rostrum and square.
Next to Forbidden City. Forbidden City is one of the must-see tourist attractions in Beijing, the capital of China, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site which provides incredible insight into the lives of China's emperors. Nowadays Forbidden City a museum called the "Museum of the Palace", present artistic and cultural treasures of Chinese history. At the same time luxurious and magnificent, the Forbidden City is considered as one of the five great palaces of the world, with the Palace of Versailles (France), the Palace of Buckingham (Great Britain), the White House (United States) and the Kremlin (Russia).
Next to Houhai Lake (Back Lake). Houhai Lake is a large lake close to the Forbidden City. A scenic lake surrounded by willow trees, Houhai lake is a good place to enjoy some leisure time by strolling around or taking a boat ride on the lake. The Houhai Lake area is particularly well-known for its active and exciting nightlife and has many bars, cafes, and restaurants to enjoy, particularly around the famous Houhai Bar Street. Because of the many food and drink options available, Houhai Lake has become a trendy hangout spot in recent years and is popular among both foreigners and locals.
Later, our tour guide will take you to Nanluohuxiang Hutong Area. Every hutong is unique and steeped in generations of history and culture. Nanluoguxiang, one of the most ancient and well-preserved hutongs in Beijing, is a truly haven of peace away from the busy city. With a history of over 800 years, this hidden treasure in downtown Beijing is filled with boutiques, little stationery stores, cafes, bars and teashops. The best way to enjoy a hutong is getting lost in its intricate maze-like lanes.
The real beauty of Nanluoguxiang Hutong area lies not just in its charming cafes, bars and shops, but in the close-knit communities of families and friends living there. You can see residents especially the elderly, peacefully chatting with their neighbours, playing chess surrounded by spectators or just wandering around watching tourists walk by.
After today's tour ends, drive you back to your hotel.
After breakfast, our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel lobby and you will be transferred to Mutianyu Great Wall.
Despite the hundreds of buses that visit daily, the Great Wall at Mutianyu is not as crowded as the nearby Badaling or Juyongguan sections of the Wall. The Great Wall at Mutianyu was built and restored in the early Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), on the remnants of a Wall originally built in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). Reconstruction took place under the supervision of Xu Da, one of the founding generals of the Ming Dynasty, who was responsible for building a Wall from Shanhaiguan in the east to as far as Mutianyu. The Ming pass at Mutianyu was officially proclaimed in 1404, where is would serve as an important symbol of protection from marauding nomads to the north.
Other unique features in this section include the 'Tail Wall' which stretches out perpendicular to the Wall along a ridgeline for stronger defensive positioning, and another perpendicular extension on the other side of the Wall. Invading nomads would use the ridgelines as they marched, to avoid being caught unawares in the brambles and trees below, and the positioning of the Great Wall along the ridgeline and these adjoining tail walls are recognition of the importance of this high ground.
After the tour of Mutianyu Great Wall, transfer you back to Beijing downtown. On the way back to your hotel, you will have chance to see the Bird's Nest & Water Cube from outside.
You will be taken back to your hotel in Beijing or Beijing train station and your 3 Days Beijing heritage tour package ends.
