Theme
"Eternal peace & harmony between nature & mankind, nurturing the future earth - a city for nature, co-existing in peace" (Chinese version: Nature and People in One in Chang'an, Nature Creativity - A City for Nature, Co-existing in Peace)
Interpretation: "People" represents the city, and "Chang'an” is the ancient name of Xi'an, an ancient capital with a long history and a symbol for national prosperity and security. Hence, "Nature and People in One in Chang'an" embodies the harmonious co-existence between the city and nature. "Nature Creativity", that is "nurturing the future earth",refers to: on the basis of respecting and protecting nature, allowing nature to serve humankind by utilizing and restoring it.
Mascot: Chang'an Flower
The primitive image of the Chang'an Flower is actually the city flower of Xi'an, the pomegranate blossom. Hence the pomegranate is the core element of the design shape and the color of the Chang'an flower. In addition, the flower's name is quite easy to remember, features what Xi'an is special for and echoes with the design concept of the exposition emblem. The name of the mascot shares the same meaning as the emblem.
Four major characteristics of the Expo in Xi'an
1. Green Engine
2. Made by Master
3. Dialogue between Ancient and Moderns Times
4. Match Made in Heaven
Four Landmarks
Theme Pavilion
The Theme Pavilion's architectural layout is in the shape of the Chinese character '?', with six geometrically irregular protrusions. The external walls are covered in bronze, wood, or shrubbery, creating interesting visual and tactile surfaces for visitors. The exhibition centre also embodies new environmentally-friendly and energy-saving technology and materials.
Guangyun Entrance
The Guangyun Entrance, located at the north-east part of the exposition site, is the main entrance of the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi’an, and it crosses the 60-meter wide Expo Avenue. The avenue can hold as many as 20,000 passengers during peak hours. The ramp is made up of water features and square flowers gardens, with horticulture features paving the way from the highest end to the lowest end, well-integrating with the Chang’an Flower Valley. This magnificent design makes a great impression.
Changan Tower
The Changan Tower is another landmark of Xi'an Expo Park, designed by Zhang Jinqiu who is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, located in the small south of the scenic spot. The tower is 99 meters high. Chang'an Tower is made of Chang'an Tower steel structure and glass member. The shape of Changan Tower has the characteristics of traditional wooden pagoda of Tang Dynasty. The eaves of each floor are open and rising, reflecting the far-reaching characteristics and style of the timber structures of the Tang Dynasty.
Greenhouse
The Greenhouse displays rare plants and eco-landscapes from different regions and various climates of the world. The material composition of the Greenhouse integrates glass, wood and a little concrete in the fa?ade of the underground element. The structure of the greenhouse is folded in order to fit in with the backdrop of mountains, and disappears into the local topography. This also ensures the beautiful scenery of the lake and land can be enjoyed from the various levels of the Theme Pavilion.
Main Highlights
Flower Garden
From the manicured forms of French estates to the sculptural gestures of Japanese gardens, the adjectives we use to describe a garden are often subject to the characteristics of the plants (or lack thereof) that grow there. No wonder horticultural research and experimentation have long been a fascination of scientists and gardeners alike. Which is why The World Horticultural Expo, slotted for 2011 and located in the city of Xi'an in China, will gain tremendous attention.
Chang'an Park
The main things shown were the aerospace plant culture, Liu culture, bamboo culture, herb culture, reflecting the latest invention of agricultural science and space plants of Xi'an, Shaanxi; cultural landscape ? poetic Chang Park to "The Book of Songs ? MAK" in Qin and Tang Dynasty, Wang Wei beautiful poem, "Chuan do Business," a poem mood for the state to rebuild a prominent oriental culture, plant reproduction Book of a new era of elegance in the 21st-century garden.
Chang'an Park is a square that frames three small peaks and part of the lake in the middle of the park. The three green peaks framed by the perimeter block houses the Chang'an Concert Hall and 2 large exhibition halls. VIP lounges, restaurants, shops, ticketing and reception foyers are housed along the perimeter block. The foyer and principal views for the concert hall faces the lake and becomes an important principal fa?ade for the lake view viewed from the south and east direction.
Qinling Park
Four kinds of the local very valuable animals were shown, they were: the giant panda, the Snub-nosed monkey, Crested ibis and takin. The Qinling Park applied the modern technology and also the classical old time's scenes like the plants and stones to show the typical sights of Qinling. Entrance Square
The northern tip of the Five Climate Crossing marks the centre of the Entrance Square. We propose a square measuring 210m by 210m. The square is planned to be a flexible open space for both horticultural exhibitions and opening ceremonies.
The centre of the square is marked by a flight of steps leading up to the Five Climates Crossing and is the lowest point in the square, creating a very gentle amphitheatre configuration. Radiating pavement lines focuses the circulation and attention to the entrance steps and centre of the square. At the same time, these radiating lines slices up the square to a pie chart like horticultural plots, creating a fan like configuration for exhibitions.
