Turpan Weather

Overview
Turpan is the unique warm temperate continental arid desert climate. It heats up rapidly and dissipates heat slowly, forming the five characteristics of long sunshine, high temperature, large temperature difference between day and night, little precipitation and strong wind due to the city located in a basin.  it It is known as "Fire State" and "Wind Bank" in China. The annual average temperature is 14?, the summer average temperature is about 30?, it has average 99 days the temperature is over 35? and average 28 days above 40? in a year. Seasonal climate change is characterized by: short spring & Autumn, a hot summer with a long period, a cold and short winter.The coldest month is January and the hottest month is July. The Turpan basin is dry with little rain and abundant sunshine. The annual sunshine hours are lasting 3200 hours, the annual accumulated temperature is above 5,300 ?, and the frost-free period is up to 270 days.

Seasonal Variations & When to visit
The best time to visit Turpan is from July to October when it has comfortable daytime temperatures and cool nights. Moreover, various fruits ripen and the air is sweet with the scent of fragrant fruits during this time of the year.

Spring
Actually, spring in Turpan is coming earlier. The dry climate makes it dusty when the wind blows hard. In spring, apricot flowers in Turpan and Ili are in blossom. That flowers falling on grasslands forms an exquisite oil painting.

Summer
Summer begins early in turpan. Summer is extremely hot and the highest temperature can reach 48°C. And Turpan has a long summer with hot weather. It is no exaggeration to say that you can bake a cake in the hot sand.
 
Autumn
Autumn doesn't last very long in Turpan.The average temperature in turpan in autumn is 15?-31?. It has clear skies invigorating air and the winds are milder in this season. It is a season for fruit harvest in Turpan.It is the best season travel to Turpan.
 
Winter
Turpan has a short winter, the weather is pretty cold and dry. January is the coldest month.

What to pack for Turpan Tour
1) If you travel to Turpan during spring, it's still cold weather in northwest part of China which is sandstorm season. You should take warmer jacket,scarf, hat, gloves.Masks are recommended to protect yourself from sand blowing.

2) If you travel to Turpan during summer, you should prepare some quick-dry and breathable underclothing makes your tour much comfortable;Short sleeves and long sleeves to cope with the daily changing temperature; Moisture and sunscreen since the intense sunshine and dry weather in Turpan, they can effectively keep you from UV radiation and the sunburnt. Sunhat and sunglasses are needed, no matter what kind of tour you take, Sunhat and sunglass are the necessary items to keep you from sunburnt.Antipyretic medicine also is needed.

3) If you travel to Turpan during autumn, it means that you choose the best time to Turpan. You should take a long sleeved shirt as temperatures here vary greatly between day and night.Autumn has comfortable daytime temperatures and cool nights. Although the temperature is high in the day time, it is necessary for you to take a hat, sunglasses and suncream to avoid being burnt.You should not wear contact lenses due to the hot dry weather.And sweaters are recommended, for layers of them can be much warmer and easy to be taken off when the temperature bounces back to a higher level.
