Overview
Tianshan Mountain in Xinjiang refers to the part of Tianshan Mountains distributed in China. It is also known as Tianshan Mountain in China or white mountain, also known as East Tianshan Mountain in ancient times. It is named because of snow in winter and summer. Tianshan is one of the seven mountain systems in the world. It is a world natural heritage. It spans China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan from east to west with a total length of 2,500 kms and an average width of 250kms from north to south. Tianshan Mountain is not only the greatest standalone mountain in the world but also the farthest mountain from ocean.
Tian Shan Mountains spans across the whole Xinjiang, through Kashgar, Aksu, Ili, Bortala, Bayingolin, Changji, Urumchi, Turpan, and Kumul with a length of 1,760 kilometers (about 1,094 miles). It is also worth to mention that 'three mountains clip two basins' is the geographic feature of Xinjiang. With the Altai Mountains on the north boundary and the Kunlun Mountains on the south boundary, the Tian Shan Mountains in the middle is the natural geographical dividing line between Junggar Basin and Tarim Basin, so Xinjiang can be divided into two parts - Southern Xinjiang and Northern Xinjiang.
Main Peaks
Bogda Peak
Bogda peak, with an altitude of 5,445 meters, is the famous peak in the east section of Tianshan mountain. The snow remains all the year above 3,800 meters, hence the name of “snow sea”.

Tomur Peak is close to the frontier between China and Kyrgyzstan with an altitude of 7443.8 meters. Tomur peak, as the first peak of Tianshan mountain, is listed as the national comprehensive nature reserve.
Khan Tengri Peak
