To visit Army of Terra Cotta Warriors is the main reason why you are here in Xian. You may have already seen its pictures from China travel books or China tour related travel websites. The Terracotta Army was discovered on 29 March 1974 to the east of Xi'an in Shaanxi province by farmers digging a water well approximately 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) east of the Qin Emperor's tomb mound at Mount Li (Lishan), a region riddled with underground springs and watercourses. The construction of the tomb was described by historian Sima Qian (145–90 BCE) in his most noted work Shiji, written a century after the mausoleum's completion.

The Terracotta Army
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.

Today, first visit the Shaanxi Provincial History Museum. If you are interested in Chinese history, Shaanxi Provincial Museum is a must on your Xian trip. It is one of the four largest museums in China (the other three are Forbidden City Museum, Shanghai Museum and Henan Provincial Museum. It is situated 1km away, northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. 

It is a giant architectural complex in the Tang-dynasty style. It occupies an area of 70,000 square metres, and the construction area being more than 50,000 square metres. It focuses on the highlights of the Shaanxi culture and depicts the development of the Chinese civilization.

History and Relics
The hall can be divided into three exhibition rooms, divided into seven parts to separate relics from the Prehistoric Period, the Zhou, Qin, Han, Wei, Jin and the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Sui Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty, and the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, with a focus on social development from the Stone Age to the decline of China's imperial era in 1840.  There are 2,000 selected objects include: painted Neolithic ceramics reflecting early people's living conditions and their pursuit of vibrant art forms, bronzes reflecting the rise of Zhou people, bronze weapons including swords, and statuary of horses and soldiers, reflecting the way in which Qin unified all under heaven, Tang-dynasty gold and silver objects and Tang sancai ceramics, reflecting the most flourishing period of feudal glory.

Then head to the Big Giant Goose Pagoda, Big Goose Pagoda is one of the oldest structures in China. Originally Big Goose Pagoda consisted of a brick structure of five storeys and was about 60 meters high. First built in 589A.D. In the Sui Dynasty. Between AD 701 and AD 704 during the reign of the Empress Wu Zetian five more storeys were added to the pagoda making ten in all. Unfortunately it was damaged during World War II and reduced to seven storeys, which is as it remains today.

Architecture
The storeyed pagoda is an architectural marvel. It was built with layers of bricks without any cement. The seams between each layer of bricks and the "prisms" on each side of the pagoda are clearly visible. The grand body of the pagoda with its solemn appearance, simple style and high structure, is indeed a good example of Chinese traditional architecture.

Continue to visit the Muslim Quarter, is the most famous food street in Xian. It consists of Islamic food area, ethnic group shopping center, Great mosque and living area of Hui people. It is a place distinct for its delicious food and Islamic culture, with a history of more than 1000 years. The streets are paved by gray flagstone and the buildings are of Ming style. About 2000 years ago in the Han Dynasty after the opening of Silk Road, Changan welcomed the first Muslims: Muslim businessmen, envoys, and students.

The food in the street is of north and west flavor, in which crude pancake in mutton soup, cold rice noodles, Chinese hamburger, Qishan noodles are famous Shaanxi food.Besides, there are other local flavors: Xi’an small cakes, Shaanxi pasta, Rice cake, etc. And in the street, most are beef and mutton products, in which the roast beef is especially delicious.

Finally, move on to explore the Ancient City wall, As one of the UNESCO's world Heritage Site, Xi'an Ancient City Wall was built in the 14th century, under the regime of Emperor Zhuyuanzhang in Ming dynasty, had the function of protecting the cities or towns as military defense systems in ancient China. Xi'an Ancient City Wall is one of the oldest, largest and best preserved Chinese city walls, exhibits the "complete features of the rampart architecture of feudal society". Xi'an City Wall is a heritage National Historical and Cultural Town since 1961, it is about 14km in length, 12meters in height. The current city wall is an enhancement of the old Tang Dynasty structure, as a result of the emperor's wall building campaign.

The first city wall of Xi'an was built of earth, rammed layer upon layer. The base layer was made of earth, quick lime, and glutinous rice extract, tamped together. It made the wall extremely strong and firm. Later, the wall was totally enclosed with bricks. A moat, wide and deep, ran around the city. Over the moat, there used to be a huge drawbridge, which would cut off the way in and out of the city, once lifted. It is the most completely preserved and the largest city wall in China. It was built for the military defense in the ancient time.Biking around the City Wall is included, and is the best way to enjoy this sight. You can take in the great contrast of the ancient culture and modern Xian while biking on the wall.  The walls, ramparts, gates and watchtowers, which were built in the 13th century can still be seen.

Day 3. Xi'an to Yan'an

After breakfast at the hotel, and your private tour guide and driver will lead you to the Yan'an. Yan'an is a prefecture-level city in the Shanbei region of Shaanxi province, China, bordering Shanxi to the east and Gansu to the west. It was near the endpoint of the Long March, and was the birthplace of the Chinese revolution and the establishment of New China. And became the center of the Chinese Communist revolution from 1936 to 1948.

Upon arrival, have lunch at the local restaurant. 

After lunch, first visit the Yangjialing Revolution Headquarters Site, The Yangjialing Revolutionary Site is located about three kilometers away from the northwest of Yan'an city. There are sites of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi and Zhu De, as well as the general office of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

Visitors can view the Great Auditorium, the Office Building and a raw of Yaodongs (artificial caves or dugouts carved into hillsides) which were the residences of Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou Enlai and some other Chinese Communist Party's early leaders, as well as many relics of much historical importance.

Then move to visit the Zaoyuan Revolutiona Headquarters Site, Zaoyuan was originally the manor of a warlord in northern Shaanxi. it was rebuilt and expanded from 1941 and completed in 1943. Over 20 cave houses and bungalow houses were built as well as one auditorium.

Revolution Site
The Central Department of Social Affairs (CDSA) and other departments of the CPC moved here in early 1939, followed by the Central Secretariat. It is the former residence of many leaders, including Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Liu Shaoqi and Zhou En lai.

First drive you to visit the Yan'an Revolution Museum, Located at the Wangjiaping on the riverbank of the Yan River to the northwest of the city of Yan’an, it is memorial museum exhibiting cultural relics of the revolution and showing the history of the revolutionary activities of Yan’an under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Continue to visit the Treasure Pagoda, Yan'an most prominent landmark where you are able to have an bird-eye view of the city of Yan'an.

After lunch, finally visit the Hukou Waterfalls Scenic Area. Hukou Waterfalls is located about 140km in the southeast of Yanan (Hukou Waterfalls is under the administration of Yanan) .

Hukou Waterfalls is the largest waterfall on the Yellow River, the second largest waterfall in China (after the Huangguoshu Waterfall), is located at the intersection of Shanxi Province. 165 km (103 mi) to the west of Fenxi City, and 50 km (31 mi) to the east of Yichuan where the middle reaches of the Yellow River flow through Jinxia Grand Canyon. The width of the waterfall changes with the season, usually 30 metres (98 ft) wide but increasing to 50 m (164 ft) during flood season. It has a height of over 20 m (66 ft). Also regarded as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in China and the largest yellow waterfalls in the world.
